Scholastic Year 2022/2023

As per circular SfCE 002-2022 issued on 17/05/2022, the LOF based syllabi will be introduced in year 9 in this scholastic year without the MATSEC coursework tasks. The coursework that was meant to be carried out will NOT be contributing to the students’ SEC certificate in 2025.

As of the date of this writing, things have not been finalised by the working group that has been set-up to work on the feedback that we provided in out first CoPE session on 19/05/2022. However, I feel that it is important to have a recommended skeleton for year 9 with possible target dates for completion .

  • Scarcity, Needs vs Wants, Opportunity Cost, Production Possibility Curve (1.1a, 1.1b, 1.1c, 1.2a, 1.2b, 1.2c, 1.3a, 1.3b, 1.3c) – to complete by mid-term recess.

  • Price Elasticity of Demand (Define, Calculate, Interpret, Sketch, Determinants, Usefulness) and Price Elasticity of Supply (Define, Calculate, Interpret, Sketch, Determinants, Usefulness) – to complete by mid-May.
  • The Real-Estate and Rental Property Markets (2.1p, 2.2p, 2.3p) – to complete by end of term 3.

This skeleton was planned with a conservative approach that takes into consideration missed lessons, public holidays and different student abilities across the schools. In fact, using this approach, not all of LO2 will be completed in the upcoming scholastic year as the labour market section will have to be completed in the following year. If this were to be the case, it would tie in with LO4 (Market Failure).

A detailed scheme of work will be provided in the coming months. Have a restful summer period!
