SEC 2023 Mitigation Measures

Due to the pandemic, measures have been taken to mitigate the SEC 2023 Language and Literature syllabi.

The following are the changes affected to the SEC Language 2023 syllabus:

  • a reduction in the types of writing tasks that may feature in Paper 2A and 2B. Writing tasks may include:
    • email
    • report
    • short story
    • article
    • film/book review
  • The speaking component will be assessed in the SEC 2023 examination.

The following are the changes affected to the SEC Literature 2023 syllabus:

  • Nine of the twelve set poems have been identified as core and the first two of the three questions will focus only on these. Candidates may prepare only these nine poems.
  • The nine core poems are:
    • My Parents Kept me from Children who were Rough
    • Sea Fever
    • The Discovery
    • The Lesson
    • We are going to see the rabbit
    • Wind
    • Dulce et Decorum est
    • The Soldier
    • Sonnet LX
  • Changes in Paper 2 include the following:
    • no questions will be set on form and style in the Drama and Prose sections.
    • two of the three questions set for the Poetry section will focus on the nine poems identified as core for the 2023 examination only.
    • the third question of the set will be thematic with a possibility for candidates to focus on poems other than the ones identified as core.
