The whole experience of the mobility for ‘More or Less’ has been very fruitful, very inspiring and so motivating.

St Bridget’s has truly embraced the mastery approach in Mathematics and it was great to see all that we have been speaking about in action.  They provided the evidence that it really does work.  Of course, seeing it in action, one realises what a leap we need to make – a complete change in mind-set starting from the teaching pedagogies.

I believe that the children will follow naturally, especially if exposed to it from the start but it is the teachers who will face the biggest challenges.  It highlighted the need for continuous training opportunities as training should never stop.  The headmaster had a lovely way to describe this – he constantly referred to the “need to have a conversation about..”  The very fact that training is referred to as a conversation implies dialogue, it implies evaluative reflection and above all, it implies continuity.  Time is always the biggest stumbling block for us but we need to focus on this change, we need to believe that it can happen and we need to continue to look for opportunities to explore this approach accordingly.
