Laura Vicuna School has recently hosted an international three-day Erasmus + Seminar with the participation of various partners. These included primary schools from Malta (Laura Vicuna – Gozo, Our Lady Immaculate – Ħamrun, St Francis – Birkirkara) and also foreign participants from the UK (St George’s Primary in Liverpool, UK) and Italy (I C Ghandi in Florence, Italy) who travelled specifically to participate in this project.
Tell us a Story (Reference: KA229 – 051254) is the name of this ambitious project which is co-financed through EU funds and which has the main objective of awakening a more conscious interest in storytelling. Tell us a Story is a two-year project and aims at using storytelling in all age groups within the kindergarten up to Year 6. It involves the use of this methodology – which is also given importance nowadays in various other aspects in life – not only as a means of imparting to learners academic concepts, but also and most importantly, to address effectively personal and social issues which learners might be facing in their everyday life.
During these three days various presentations and workshops were held where all the participant schools had the opportunity to discuss and bring to the fore their experiences within the ambit of storytelling. All schools were given the opportunity to highlight the advantages being experienced through storytelling within their education process and also to share innovative ideas within the ambit of storytelling within education.
Contribution from SfCE included presentations by Sr Alexandra Chircop (Service Manager Pastoral Care), Ms Natalie Lombardi Calleja (Digital Literacy), Ms Fiona Galea and Ms Sharon Naudi (Literacy Support Teachers), Ms Jeanette Galea Soler and Ms Claire McElhatton (Autism Support Teachers) and Ms Ylenia M. Xuereb (HOD Numeracy).
The project will continue over the coming months with various activities being hosted by the other participants. Laura Vicuna School would like to thank and show its gratitude to all those who have helped in the organisation and the hosting of this international seminar and to the dedicated staff who have ensured that the stay of all participants was a pleasant one and that the workshops could take place smoothly and effectively.
Tell us a Story project is co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union. Ms Cheryl Grech is head of school at Laura Vicuna, Gozo.
