Inclusive Education

Heads of Departments for Inclusion collaborate with other professional members of a multidisciplinary team, the Senior Management of schools, educators, students, and parents. This collaborative web is in place to ensure that all students with different individual educational needs are provided with the appropriate access to the curriculum and are therefore able to attain a good quality education.

They support the schools to provide an inclusive environment and provisions as follows:

  • Participating in the development of an Inclusion Policy addressing Diverse Educational Needs, and its provision in collaboration with the Service Manager for Educational Services, the Senior Management Team (SMT) of the assigned schools, school staff, learners, and parents.
  • Establishing effective implementation and monitoring of this policy and related actions to ensure equitable access to a relevant curriculum for students with Individual Educational Needs (IENs).
  • Overseeing the planning, implementation, and review of Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) for students with IENs.
  • Coordinating the provision to guarantee access arrangements for learners with IENs.
  • Advising the SMT on the procurement and management of IEN resources in schools and monitoring their utilisation.
  • Ensuring that Individual Transition Programmes (ITP) are implemented before transition from one school to another or from one sector to another and participating in the development of such programmes, including school-to-work ITPs where applicable.
  • Coordinating all staff assigned to students with IENs.
  • Liaising with feeder and receiver schools.
  • Facilitating links between schools, Learning Centres, Resource Centres, and other specialised services through networking activities.
  • Overseeing that learners with IENs are encouraged to develop functional skills and, where possible, begin taking responsibility for their own learning and developing independent living skills.
  • Liaising with and providing technical advice to colleagues in schools, and other professionals who are in contact with students with IENs.
  • Liaising with external agencies involved in supporting students with IENs.
  • Guiding, collaborating, and liaising with parents/guardians of learners with IENs.
