We recently issued a document entitled Guidelines for Teachers of English – Years 7 and 8, which should be effective as from scholastic year 2021/2022. This document was sent out to all schools but may also be accessed here.

The following are salient points which need to be kept in mind while using this document:

These are guidelines which need to be applied to the different contexts of our various schools. However, the curricular entitlement of students needs to be kept in mind when decisions are made.

These were issued as a result of recent updates in the document issued for state schools accessed here.

The provision of two examination papers: one for Language and one for Literature remains highly recommended.

The recommended weighting of the Language examination paper for each Year is outlined in the document and comes into effect as from next scholastic year 2021/2022.

The weighting for examination papers in relation to Continuous Assessment remains 70% examination and 30% continuous assessment tasks (reported LOs). Therefore:

Language: 70% examination paper and 30% SBAs (School based assessments)

Literature: 70% examination paper and 30% SBAs (School based assessments)
